Welcome to 9Teese ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application 9Teese (the "App"). By using the App you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

9Teese is a 17+ location-based social platform. You must be at least 17 years old to create an account.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Email address
• First name
• Date of birth (used to verify you are 17+)
• Profile photo
• Interests / hobbies you choose to share
• Optional: university major and residence (e.g., SFU fields)
• Posts, comments, images, polls, and other user-generated content you publish
• Message requests and direct messages
• Reports and blocks you submit against other users

Information collected automatically:

• Location — when you enable "Open to Talk," your approximate location (accurate to roughly 100 metres) is stored as a coordinate and as a geohash, along with a general place label such as a neighbourhood or city name. Only your most recent position is stored; we do not retain a location history.
• Push notification token — to deliver notifications you have enabled.
• Firebase Analytics events — anonymous usage events (e.g., screen views, feature interactions). These events do not include personally identifiable information (PII).
• Device type and OS version (via Firebase crash and analytics infrastructure).

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account
• To display your profile and content to nearby users based on your location
• To enable messaging between users
• To enforce our Terms of Service, including age verification, moderation, and bans
• To send push notifications for activity you have opted into
• To detect and prevent spam, abuse, and fraudulent activity
• To improve and develop the App using aggregated, anonymized analytics
• To respond to your support requests

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information as follows:

• With other users: Your profile (name, photo, interests, and public posts) is visible to other users in accordance with the App's discovery features.
• Service providers: We use Firebase (Google LLC) for authentication, database, storage, analytics, and hosting. Firebase's privacy practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Moderation and safety: Reports you file, and reports filed against you, may be reviewed by our admin team and may result in account suspension or ban.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.

4. Location Data

The App requests access to your device location to power its core discovery features. When you enable "Open to Talk," your location is stored as an approximate coordinate (accurate to roughly 100 metres) and as a geohash. We may also derive and store a general place label — such as a neighbourhood or city name — to help nearby users understand your general area.

Only your most recent position is stored; we do not maintain a location history. Location data is linked to your account and is used solely to show you nearby people and posts, and to show your general area to other nearby users. Location is not used for advertising or shared with third parties.

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, or disable "Open to Talk" within the App. Doing so stops location updates and removes your presence from nearby discovery.

5. User-Generated Content

Content you post (photos, text, polls) is visible to other users of the App. You are responsible for the content you share. We reserve the right to remove content that violates our Terms of Service.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your profile, posts, and associated personal data promptly, except where we are required to retain information for legal or safety purposes.

If an account is suspended or banned for policy violations, we may retain limited information — such as a normalized email address and moderation records — to prevent abuse, enforce our rules, and protect the community.

7. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from within the App's settings. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your profile, posts, location data, and associated account data. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Conversation history may remain visible to people you previously messaged, so their conversations are not unexpectedly removed. Your identity in those conversations will be replaced with "Deleted User."

8. Children's Privacy

9Teese is strictly for users 17 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If we become aware that a user is under 17, we will terminate their account immediately.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including Firebase's security infrastructure, Firestore security rules, and encrypted data transmission. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Third-Party Services

The App is built on Firebase (Google LLC). By using the App, your data is also subject to Google's privacy practices. We do not use any other third-party SDKs or analytics services at this time.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data (via in-app account deletion or by contacting us)
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the App or on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
